Lime Kiln - Mark 2

Well, I did the Lime Kiln in watercolour and I'm really glad I did. When I first chose this subject I had considered it to be an easy picture and when I found it more difficult than I'd expected I thought it was because of the acrylics. Having done it now in watercolour I realise that the picture was harder than it looked. I'm not sure which I prefer and there is less of a difference in them than I'd expected. The acrylic looks flatter somehow.

It's been an interesting exercise and quite eye-opening.

  1. I do like the watercolor more. It has more luminosity to it and subtle gradations one can only achieve with watercolor. I admire your persistence at painting the subject twice. That usually never works for me, but your second piece proves that it's a good idea to experiment.

  2. Your acrylic version looks more colourful John, but the watercolour version seem brighter and more distinct, which I would have thought would be the other way round.
If I had to choose between the two, the acrylic would have it simply for the cleaner colours.

  4. Watercolourist, I agree with you about the graduations. The acrylic looks 'flat' somehow, though I did appreciate being to over paint.

Frank, the colours are cleaner in the acrylic but I think that's what makes them look flat. (?)

Maria, GO FOR IT!!! And thanks for visiting my blog. I appreciate it.
